MISTER LONELY

"I don't know if you know what it's like to want to be someone else. To not want to look like you look. To hate your own face. All we want is to be better than ourselves. It is easier to see things in others. To see things you admire and try and become that. To own a different face. To dance a different dance. And sing a different song. Let us become who we are not. I think the world is a better place that way." A Michael Jackson impersonator (actor Diego Luna in great shape) opens with these words Mister Lonely, Harmony Korine's new movie. A dreamy, psychedelic, metaphysical, and pretty physical trip that will make you think about love, happiness and hope more than you would like to do, especially in summer. With Samantha Morton (a Marilyn impersonator) and a special appearance by Werner Herzog! For those of us who live far from NY and London and their movie theatres and will have to wait for the dvd release of the film, Nieves has just published the book of the film script while Drag City has released the Mister Lonely soundtrack; an electric blues affair (in the broadest possible sense) composed by Sun City Girls and J Spaceman (alias Spiritualized and Spacemen 3).
